What's New 5-3-24
Cyan Blue finds Wilson crafting a smoothly woven tapestry of her eternal influences; thumping gospel piano, warm soul basslines, atmospheric electronics, and penetrating R&B melodies. Yet, it rings in a new era for Wilson, one in which she's embracing collaboration and newfound creative openness tinged with a reflection on youthful innocence.
Infused with the energy of Dua's hometown, London, the attitude of the album embodies the rawness, honesty, confidence and freedom of `90s Britpop. Radical Optimism transports its listener to a dreamy pop world rich in musicality, lyrically unapologetic and sonically liberating. Find the pure joy of having clarity in situations that once seemed impossible to face.
As Nenni swerves between lush melodies and jaunty ditties, steely sentiments and intimate words, she maps an album that is honest and feisty, a little messy but never off course. Drive & Cry is a freshly sharpened display of the artist's already singular talents, marking another vintage-sheened opus for the road.
Washington creates a playground and invites friends (George Clinton, D Smoke, Andre 3000, Thundercat) to be themselves. Fearless Movement is an unabashed, cross-country, transgenerational manifestation and celebration of Black American music, pushing it forward from a deep love of its past not just in the spirit of community but in its actual presence.
A triumphant return to Turner’s indie roots, Undefeated showcases his undiminished zeal and raw musical power. This album, passionately self-produced at his home studio on Mersea Island, represents a creative renaissance for Turner, embracing the spirit of independence with his steadfast band, The Sleeping Souls.
Record number six from the superstar musician follows 2022’s rock-heavy Coping Mechanism and the previous year’s pop-punk-leaning lately I feel EVERYTHING, this time with another genre switch. With appearances from St. Vincent and Jon Baptiste, emotions spill as Smith veers toward a new alternative and jazz tinged direction.
Lauded experimental death metal band Dååth has emerged from its 13-year hiatus with a monstrously heavy but beautifully orchestrated album that will haunt anybody fortunate enough to hear it. Band founder/guitarist Eyal Levi has overseen an overhaul of the lineup, though importantly Dååth still features force-of-nature vocalist Sean Zatorsky.
While there is no denying the progressive metal heritage that permeates their music, Wheel has a musical identify that is unequivocally distinctive. Fans of bands like Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and yes, Tool, will all find something to love here, but Wheel clearly transcends these comparisons while avoiding the self-indulgence that often plagues progressive music.

Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism - Warner Records
St. Vincent’s first self-produced record, All Born Screaming is Annie Clark at her most unfiltered. All Born Screaming is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible–and to then keep going; Brought to life with the aid of a highly curated dream lineup of friends — Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke — the album is an unadulterated expression of St. Vincent’s singular vision.
Death Lens - Cold War - Epitaph
Transparent clear vinyl black splatter (Indie exclusive). Death Lens relentlessly seeks a place in your consciousness, a persistent presence whispering in your ear. Concealing ferocity beneath a stylish veneer, their live shows unleash energy and chaos, leaving spectators disarmed and forever transformed. After successful tours with Militarie Gun and Together Pangea and hometown support, Death Lens is poised to release their latest album, "Cold World," on May 3rd, through Epitaph Records. In recordings, Death Lens forges unyielding rock, blending West Coast surf punk with Britrock's tight, bouncy rhythms. Despite their deceptive chill and vibe-focused portrayal, live performances brim with hardcore intensity. Rooted in slick guitar sonics and sugary backing vocal harmonies, reminiscent of indie punk and shoegaze, Death Lens channels the energy of bands like Turnstile and Militarie Gun on stage, creating soundtracks for indelible memories of high-energy, sweat-soaked singalongs.Hailing from La Puente, the self-described "five Brown boys" transition from showcasing explosive energy in recordings to embodying a refined representation of hard work and early influences gaining traction in their scene. Growing up as minorities east of Los Angeles amidst police harassment and gang violence, Death Lens faced risk factors that could have led them astray. Evolving from a party garage punk band, they now serve as a platform addressing life in heavily policed and immigrant-dominant areas, advocating for immigration reforms, and utilizing resources to support their community. Their experiences form a powerful narrative within their music.

What's New 4-26-24
Previous albums have highlighted Crockett’s unique meld of the tragic, the wistful, and the satirical. With his 13th album, $10 Cowboy, he offers his most fully realized set. Occurring as a cross between Hank Williams, a low-key carnival announcer, and the Coen brothers’ Buster Scruggs, Crockett has perfected his craft: $10 Cowboy is a 2024 standout.
This is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible–and to then keep going. Brought to life with the aid of a highly curated lineup of friends — Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke — the album is an unadulterated expression of St. Vincent’s singular vision.
This is a dance record. It’s also a statement about our harrowing future - AI, self-driving cars, Twitter rage, mass media manipulation, and ultimately, the sin of perfectionism. It’s sonically influenced by the work of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, Prince, The Residents, and DEVO. And it’s spectacular.
Fashioned as an album that should be taken as a whole, Light Verse is lovingly handmade and self-assured as a secret handshake— equal parts elegy, kaleidoscope, truth, and dare. Featuring Fiona Apple, Tyler Chester, Sebastian Steinberg, David Garza, Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane, and Paul Cartwright.
This is an emo record, but perhaps only categorically speaking. It contains multitudes: ambient, pop, R&B, punk, and experimental sounds float in and out of one another as the record moves through scenes, experiences, and feelings, all of them rippling with a purity of intention and translation that mark the best artistic works of “psychedelia.”
Long-standing legendary German titans of heavy metal are back with another world class entry in their legendary catalog. Sometimes, straight up riffage with no frills and all thrills is exactly what you need and that is exactly what Accept have delivered with Humanoid— a healthy slab of classic heavy metal that compliments the band’s near 50-year legacy.
It Beckons Us All follows 2022's revered Astral Fortress, with what could be considered an even more refined, challenging & diverse set of timeless metal anthems from the uncompromising trailblazers; from the melodic, to the somber & atmospheric, to the blackened dirges emanating from Darkthrone's highly distinguishable riffing.
With its playful narratives and hooks like anchors, Swift’s 11th studio album is a terrific reminder of her storytelling powers and intense, personal connection she can conjure in song. It combines the intimacy of Folklore and Evermore with the synth-pop gloss of Midnights to create music that's wildly ambitious and gloriously chaotic.
Papercuts is the first singles collection from innovative musical force Linkin Park. The career-spanning 20-track album compiles 18 essential anthems, plus the never-before-released track “Friendly Fire” recorded during the 2017 sessions for their seventh album One More Light and fan-favorite rarity “QWERTY”.
