More Info:

Come 'Riding On The L&N' with a steaming hot band whose progressive rock/blues was a hit during the R&B boom. 4CDs & 1DVD of unreleased & unheard Steamhammer material from 1969 to 1972. 4 hours of recordings restored & mastered by Eroc. Features interviews with original founding member Steve Davy plus Louis Cennamo & Steve Jolliffe. 32-page booklet includes unseen photos & an in-depth essay by Chris Welch. Formed in 1968 in Worthing, Sussex by vocalist Kieran White and bass guitarist Steve Davy, Steamhammer was augmented by guitarist Martin Pugh and later by Martin Quittenton after the band's arrival in London. Their progressive blues/rock style and original material driven by drummer Mick Rushton proved an instant hit with club-goers and festival audiences. 'Junior's Wailing', a hard-hitting "rock me baby, all night long" number sold well and as a result, they became much in demand for TV and radio shows, and regularly toured Germany where they were especially popular. This compiled 4CD and DVD collection captures Steamhammer in action at concerts and on TV shows such as Germany's legendary Beat-Club, all in superb sound quality. Spanning the period 1969-1972 we experience the band's changing line-up including performances from Steve Jolliffe (saxophone and flute), drummer John Lingwood and US-born vocalist Bruce Michael Paine. On Disc 1 we hear them play four great tracks televised by Beat-Club in 1969 and 1970, together with their performance at the 1969 Pop & Blues Festival in Essen, Germany. Disc 2 features shows from Frankfurt and Cologne, whilst Disc 3 sees Steamhammer on top form in Mannheim in 1971. Disc 4 finds Steamhammer back on home turf playing the renowned London Marquee in July 1972. Steamhammer Live showcases brilliant improvised versions of tracks from their albums MK II, Reflection (aka Steamhammer), Mountains and Speech, while the DVD provides an opportunity to see and hear the band perform in a variety of settings and includes a short documentary piece from German TV's Hier und Heute in 1970 and a 1969 French TV special performance.
